Last week we released several sailfish and had no shortage of blackfin tuna! Now through June are the best months to target the blackfin. They tend to stay deeper during daytime unless they are on the move following an easy school of bait on the surface! We can drop jigs or live bait down into reefs and wrecks and catch blackfin tuna as well. Once they find a spot they usually stick around.
The cobia we have caught have in 90-180 feet of water inside and a few outside of drop offs. Cobia can be caught on live bait and really anything moving that captures their attention. Once hooked up - be ready to hang on! Cobia put on quite a fight and it is well worth it too because they make for an excellent meal. Dolphin (mahi) are also running - we have run into a few schools while drifting or looking for birds diving into bait. Bait fish tend to school closer to the top as a result of the strong currents of the Gulf Stream pushing them to the surface. We fished the Boynton Beach Firefighters Fishing Tournament over the weekend in tough conditions and placed 1st for kingfish and 2nd for Lady Angler. With that being said the kingfish bite is still on and there are plenty of opportunities to bring in a hand full of fish! This is a great time of year to target a huge variety of fish nearshore and offshore in the Palm Beach area. I look forward to planning a day on the water with you soon. Capt. Alex Burgess

Fished the Boynton Beach Firefighters Fishing Tournament and Chili Cookoff 2017 in some very rough conditions. Slowly made a 25 mile run to catch a nice king that was big enough for 1st place king with a 42 lber and 2nd place lady angler.
Fun morning trip before the rain. 2 sails, nice cobia and a short cobia, nice blackfin and plenty of bonito to keep you busy #seapremacyfishingcharters #seapremacycharters #seapremacy #sails #tunas #cobia #seavee #seaveeboats #loadmaster #xgenerationrods #mercurymarine #shimanoreels #kluchapparel
I am happy to report that we are continuing to release several #sailfish daily and expect more next week as well. During the spring sailfish push through offshore along with the biggest dolphin we will see all year. The #dolphin #mahi started to show up with the southeasterly flowing winds and ripping current in the Gulf Stream. We are also hooking up to plenty of #blackfin tuna and #bonitos which is a good sign for this upcoming week. We are looking forward to good numbers of #cobia showing up also. Cobia are typically solitary, except during spawning or when scavenging under or with large rays or sharks. They usually hang around reefs and wrecks offshore or inshore. Any type of large structure where baitfish retreat will also have #cobia nearby. Cobia spend the winter months near the Keys, and will usually migrate north as spring and summer approach. In late March, Cobia start moving north for Daytona and can be found off Jacksonville’s coast by June.
Have a great rest of the week. Capt. Blackfin tuna and bonitos are showing up more and more. We can find them usually by watching for them crash on bait that is at the surface of the water and birds diving down. Both put on an awesome fight and are excellent to eat! The snapper bite continues to be good. As we get closer to April the water will be warming up gradually and the fishing is going to get even better. Sailfish, dolphin, kingfish, cobia, blackfin tunas and mutton snapper will all be around. The water tends to lay down with the wind making for a smooth seas and a comfortable ride all day long. Our charters fish in the following areas: Palm Beach, Singer Island, Riviera Beach, Jupiter, Juno Beach, Lake Worth, Boynton Beach, Hobe Sound, Port St Lucie, Boca Raton, Jenson Beach Looking forward to getting you on some fish. Call or email to plan your day on the water! Capt. Alex Burgess Best action this week has been with kite fishing, multiple shots everyday on sailfish. A kite spreads baits out over a vast area of water and holds each bait at the surface. The baits thrashing causes distress vibrations which can only mean the sailfish should not be too far away from striking. We keep an eye out for frigates and other birds diving as we are drifting or trolling which can be a sign of other big fish on a school of bait fish.
A few big wahoo's coming in the boat along with quite a number of dolphin (mahi mahi) and some kingfish. I'm expecting the sailfish and dolphin bite to continue being action packed! This is a great time of year to also target kingfish and cobia as we get into Spring fishing season. Both species put on big fight - so be ready to hang on! Cobia also makes a great fish to take home for dinner. I look forward to getting you on the water to experience everything we have to offer in the area during your fishing trip! Capt. Alex Burgess |
